Transformation, an hour long doc on MTV that I scored, was nominated for a Daytime Emmy! It was nominated in the “Outstanding Special Class Special” category (really rolls off the tongue, doesn’t it?). Go read about it here if you’d like. Congrats to the filmmakers Melissa Johnson & Katelyn Howes and the whole team! It was such a joy working on this. A great group of people, and a great message.
I recently produced an album of the songs featured in this film for one of my favorite singers, Gabbi McPhee. We arranged and recorded the songs in a whirlwind two and a half days with a fantastic group of musicians at fantastic Palomino Sound, and I'm so happy with the end result. I recently did the music for a really lovely doc called Transformation that's premiering on MTV this Thursday (11/17) at 10/9c as part of their Transgender Awareness Week programming. It was a special project to be a part of all around, and made even more so by getting to use my mom on violin on a few cues! A little while back, my good friend Mack Slevin and I wrote and recorded a sort-of-punk album in my garage over the weekend. We drank a lot of bourbon, laughed really hard, and even got the cops called on us while we were recording vocals (the police told us they'd got reports of "prolonged screaming coming from the house next door"). Download the ensuing mess here and enjoy the giddily incoherent noise of two grown men being pushed down the stairs by their inner child.

I'll be playing synths and keys with fantastic human artist person Lauren, aka Ray Little at the Bootleg Theater in Echo Park this Sunday (6/12/16). My Empty Wave bandmate Chris Null will also be there strumming up pillowy mounds of bubblegum ear candy with his guitar, along with drummer Kane Ritchotte of Portugul the Man. Babysitter, the first feature film I scored, just came out today on iTunes, Amazon and most other streaming services for rent or purchase! It was an amazing experience working on the film with director Morgan Krantz, and I'm so proud of the score that came out of it. Empty Bed, the short I recently scored, is playing at a whole slew of upcoming film festivals. So far it's programmed at Chattanooga Film Festival, Sarasota Film Festival, Calgary Underground Film Festival, and Motor City Nightmares Film Fest. Just finished the score to the suspense/horror short film Empty Bed, directed by Brandt Shandera and written by Brandt and Christopher Stanton. I had a great time working on it. Really tense and creepy; got to do a lot of droney and unsettling synth work. A sample of the music is up in the score section.
Had an wonderful time playing a gig at the US air force base in Okinawa with Michelle Branch. I played electric guitar, Chris Null played bass, and Cassidy Turbin played drums. Great group of people, along with Josh Benton and Mike Masters our excellent monitor and front of house mixers (respectively), and David Branch tour managing things.
After Okinawa, I spent a couple weeks in Japan exploring. What an amazing place. Hard to sum it up, but loved every minute of it. Met so many great people, ate an insane amount of great food, and saw so much. Got some traditional Japanese instruments while I was over there too and a really cool, really rare guitar pedal as well. The souvenirs of a musician! Can't wait to go back.
Just got back from Tampa where I played at the Seminole Hard Rock with Michelle Branch. I played acoustic guitar and banjo and sang backup vocals, along with Chris Null, who also played acoustic guitar and sang backups. I had a blast; Michelle is a delight, and we are doing a gig next week in Japan!!
I did the score for a short film called Strings that was just released today. It was written and directed by my very dear (and talented) friend, Jimmy Loweree. Ch-ch-check it oooouuuutt!!
