I scored a short film called My Name is Annabel that is premiering this week on PBS.org as part of their “Voces Shorts” lineup. It’s a documentary about Annabel Hernandez, a performer with Down syndrome, that aims to tell her story from her perspective. This was another film by Ida Joglar, who I worked with on Kili Big, and another fantastic experience. Ida seems to know exactly how much direction to give so it’s always clear what the music needs to accomplish, but enough freedom that it feels joyous and exploratory to get there. She also has deep empathy and a true gift for allowing her subjects the agency to tell their own stories in her docs. I’ve been very touched by both of these films. My Name Is Annabel is up online starting June 17th on PBS.org and the PBS Youtube Channel.
